SibMed researchers and pharmaceutical manufacturers discussed PHARMA-2030 projects in Tomsk

On October 24-25, representatives of SibMed, Engineering Center of Chemical Technology at TSU and leading medical and pharmaceutical manufacturers discussed joint projects within the “PHARMA-2030” program in Tomsk.

‘This is the second meeting of SibMed researchers with pharmaceutical manufacturers. The first one took place last year and gathered top managers of 11 pharmaceutical companies, which overall profit over 2016 made more than 91 billion rubles. Universities, business and manufacturing companies often don’t speak the same language. During this meeting all parties may reach a compromise and take part in win-win negotiation on future projects’ Olga Kobyakova, SibMed Rector, commented.

In 2018, CEOs and top managers of 15 companies from Moscow, Kurgan, Irbit, Anzhero-Sudzhensk, Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk took part in the meeting.

Benjamin Kovach, Vice-president for Business Development at Pharmasyntez, a company specializing in production of anti-TB, antineoplastic, antiretroviral, antidiabetic and hormonal drugs and antibiotics, participated in the meeting. He said that he had come to meet with scientists and find new promising developments.

‘One of our goals will be to subsidize and support start-ups at the stages that may prevent a development from becoming a product. Tomsk has always been a city of science, and we consider it essential to hold conferences like this one, where researchers can interact with manufacturers. “PHARMA-2020” focused on import replacement, while “PHARMA-2030” will focus on innovations and support for business’ Elena Denisova, Deputy Director of the Department for Pharmaceutical and Medical Industry Development at the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, said.

‘Siberian companies are currently one of the key players in the pharmaceutical industry. The market is growing, and all Siberian regions and universities strive to excel at biotechnological and biomedical research. However, they won’t be able to succeed in it unless they speak the same language with business and manufacturers’ Liudmila Ogorodova, Deputy Governor for Research and Education emphasized.
