SibMed international students visited St. Petersburg

02.09.2022

At the end of August, SibMed international students from the General Medicine program traveled to St. Petersburg. The trip was organized by the SibMed Department for International Education and supported by Vice-rector for Youth Policy Aleksandr Ratkin.

The group consisted of 11 international students from India, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Indonesia, Ghana and other countries. They are actively engaged in educational or social activities, sports or volunteering. Since the participants come from different years of study and many of them did not know each other before the trip, the event helped to unite them.

In four days, they visited the main sights of St. Petersburg, including the Hermitage, Peterhof, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Zayachy Island, listened to street artists, walked along the city streets and got to know each other. Thanks to this short trip to the Northern Capital, students of the English-language program discovered a completely new part of Russia, got acquainted with the history and culture of the country.

The University staff members adjusted the program according to the students' requests. Thus, during the trip, international students were able to see the drawbridges in action — one of the main sights of the city. Young tourists noted that they would like to continue traveling around Russia.

The students were accompanied by employees of the SibMed Department for International Education — Head of the Department Veoletta Galitskaya and Anastasiia Titova who helps international students to adapt to life in Russia. The team also included Daria Kokorina — the Deputy Dean from the General Medicine Department working with international students.

The trip to St. Petersburg encouraged one of the students to start a career. A student from Ghana is now going to work in the SibMed Department for International Education to help with the foreign market of medical education.
