SibMed opened Experimental Surgery Training Center

14.03.2025

Experimental Surgery Training Center started operating at SibMed. This is the final component of SibMed's surgical specialist training ecosystem, which also includes Medical Accreditation and Simulation Center and the surgical complex of Preclinical Research Center. Experimental Surgery Training Center was established as part of the strategic project "Transformation of medical and pharmaceutical education" under the "Priority 2030" development program.

The Center's primary goal is to significantly enhance the quality of surgical training.

Technologies are advancing rapidly, leading to the emergence of new and more complex surgical techniques. Moreover, surgery is a specialty where manual skills are crucial and can only be fully developed in the operating room. Our goal is to give students the opportunity to train on state-of-the-art equipment in an environment that closely simulates real surgical conditions. The opening of Experimental Surgery Training Center is an important step in this direction. We are confident that the Center will become a key platform for training highly skilled surgical specialists and will contribute to increasing the number of future surgeons.

— said Evgeny Kulikov,

SibMed Rector.

The Center is equipped with modern endovideosurgical equipment for minimally invasive operations, which will allow students and clinical residents to acquire skills in urology, microsurgery, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy and other areas during their studies at the university. The Center also supports live streaming from operating rooms to on-site screens and allows for the recording of surgical procedures for future use in the educational process and publication in SibMed's virtual learning environment.

Practical classes will be held at the Center for students studying surgical disciplines, including as part of individualized educational tracks. Young scientists from the Student Scientific Society named after N.I. Pirogov will be able to use the equipment for conducting experimental research. In addition, the Center will become the main venue for holding surgical competions at the regional, national and international levels. The Center is equipped for simulations of surgical interventions using animal and animal cadaveric material.

— told Yana Shikunova,

Head of Multidisciplinary Accreditation and Simulation Center at SibMed.

Additionally, the Center will enable the University to develop advanced training courses for doctors in various surgical fields, including thoracic, abdominal, vascular surgery, and surgical dentistry.
