SibMed experts created Russia's first ultrasonic spirometer for individual use

12.08.2024

The new generation telemedicine spirometer "Spiro" is a portable device for monitoring the condition of patients with chronic pulmonary pathology. It has no analogs in the Russian Federation. Its prototype was created by experts of the SibMed Digital Medicine and Cyberphysics Center as part of the Priority 2030 program.

The device measures air flow using built–in ultrasonic sensors. The spirometer is designed to measure respiratory parameters and detect abnormalities in human lung function. The device is universal and can be used as part of telemedicine equipment and for individual use. Built-in sensors enable the transmission of breathing parameters to a mobile device via a wireless communication channel for a subsequent assessment by specialists. "Spiro" will allow patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma to better control their condition while their doctors will be able to adjust drug therapy. The device can also be used in respiratory rehabilitation after COVID-19. At the moment, it has no analogs in Russia. The device will be tested in SibMed Clinics. At the moment, the MVP (minimum viable product) of the spirometer is ready. The experts plan to commercialize the results during 2024. Registration of the medical device is also planned for this year.
